The Shihoro Line Taushubetsu River Bridge, which nurtures life
A concrete arch bridge that is slowly collapsing while a single tree grows on it. When the water recedes, the grasslands appear, and beyond the stumps submerged in the bottom of Lake Nukabira, the mountains of Nipesotsu-yama, Upepesanke-yama, and Ishikari-dake tower above. If this place, where life and death coexist, was once traversed by a steam locomotive carrying passengers, there could be nothing more poignant. The Taushubetsu River Bridge, which will one day crumble away. Will there come a day when I can see it again before I too fade away? If I knew where this track led, would I change in some way? A bridge that holds promise for the future. The Taushubetsu River Bridge.
